Got the news in class this morning that our beloved Guruji, the founder of Ashtanga yoga, is at rest.
I practice Ashtanga nearly every day and have done so for over ten years, but I only had the opportunity to practice with Guruji once, when he came to San Francisco on one of his many “final” world tours. It was in a huge room with hundreds of practitioners from all over the Bay Area and farther afield, but he handled the room like there were only a dozen of us. He was already in his late eighties by then. The energy was amazing. I lined up after class with everyone else and kissed his feet.
Thank you, Guruji.
