First Day; Plus Other Stuff

My first day of real estate broker work went very well…with a tiny setback.

Seems that the state’s licensing process shifted midway through my own preparation process, such that the instructions I followed when I started down the road of training, testing, and finding work were no longer the correct instructions by the time I got to the end of that road. And that even though the testing agency (where I took the test on July 25) should have known about these rule changes (which were implemented on July 1), apparently they dropped the ball.

Anyway, now I pick up the ball and move forward. I have a few logistical things to take care of before I am actually legally licensed; meanwhile, I still get to go in and do training and build my database and all that. There’s plenty to keep me busy. And it’s a nice way to ease into things, frankly. Especially at a very slow real-estate time of year.

Best of all, however, was that I got started just in time for the agency’s Christmas party, which was this evening. It was originally scheduled for tomorrow night; when I learned it got changed to tonight, Mark agreed to stay over one more night, then go back to Seattle tomorrow. (See how I did this? Crafty, I am. Kept him for *several* more days than he’d planned.) 🙂

In news of the aquarium: my, what voracious eaters we have. The nine shrimp and the two catfish have cleaned every last morsel of algae off every surface of the tank, and have started on the lovely plants we Mark so lovingly planted. We dropped by the aquarium store on our way to the Christmas party to ask about this; they were befuddled and bemused, and eventually said, “Well, feed them more algae tablets, I guess.”

Hungry fish.

And I wrote this afternoon, some: about a page and a half on the collaborative story. Which felt very good! I hadn’t written since before Thanksgiving (though I’ve thought about several stories at some length). I think one more good session of writing and I’ll have a draft zero of this, ready to send to Mark for him to tear it to shreds and make it MUCH better. But he can’t do that till I do this, so….maybe tomorrow. Or Saturday.

Speaking of Saturday: my cousin’s band, Demimonde Slumber Party, is playing in Portland on Saturday night. I’m going, and I think my friend K will come too. Anyone else interested?
