So I was swimming at the pool this afternoon, as is my wont; and after I’d been there a while, an elderly gentleman came along and began swimming in the lane next to me.
That was all well and good…until something…dangling…happened to catch my eye.
“What is that dangling thing?” I wondered, glancing over. “Could it be…no, please, let it NOT be…”
It was.
The elderly gentleman had rolled down his shorts in front, exposing the entirety of his….dangly bits. Just pulled them out and let them fly, as it were. (He kept the backside covered up, which, frankly, I appreciate.)
For a while, I wondered if he realized how well people wearing goggles can see underwater. Then, I decided that he *did* realize, perfectly well. And that I wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction (that he was so clearly seeking) of letting on that I’d even noticed.
Though I did report him to the front desk afterwards. (Though I bet such things aren’t even a misdemeanor in Portland…) “That’s not cool,” said the front desk gal.
I shrugged. “Whatever.” Poor old dude. If he’d wanted a dramatic, horrified reaction, he should have exposed himself to someone who didn’t grow up on a commune. 😉

In other news: I have named the catfish: they are Morris and Beatrice. No, I don’t actually know their sexes; I just went with body language and facial expression, and a writer’s intuition.
Elsewise, it’s been a pretty good weekend around the Witchnest. Until the Swimming Junk Incident, my big story of the day was going to be telling you about how a horrible rapping sound startled me up last night just as I was falling asleep, clearly coming from inside the house; and I got up and turned on all the lights and looked all over the house, but found nothing amiss; and took forever to fall asleep again; and this morning found that an ornament had fallen off the tree. But that pales in comparison, so I won’t tell you that.
Oh wait.
Also, some good writing news, which I will share later. Also, a lovely dinner at H’s house last night: she cooked a veritable FEAST (roast chicken with homemade stuffing, elegant green salad, cranberry jello salad, scrumptious broccoli, homemade chocolate cake); I have leftovers of that to enjoy this evening. Mmm. Sounds good right about now, come to think of it.
