I am back in Portland, after driving all day today from my folks’ place in California…basically an 11 hour drive, give or take. I’d hoped to be home rather earlier, but I got a sort of late start, and then the drive-length was increased by Other People Having A Very Bad Day: a propane tanker off the road just south of Crescent City (and very likely other cars too, but I couldn’t see them over the cliff…) Yikes. We were stopped on the highway quite a while, with no idea why, as we were beyond the signs that the cleanup crew had put up.
But, well, I didn’t have to be here at a particular time…I just wanted to. Insult to injury: the ramp to the Ross Island Bridge was closed, inexplicably, with no signs or notices or anything, just: big orange barriers across the lane! Go find another bridge, haha!
Fortunately, there are other bridges. But, meh. 15 minutes added to the end of an 11-and-then-some-hour drive: those are LONG minutes, let me tell you.
Anyway! Enough traffic ranting. I have more to say about my trip, but not tonight, for I am weary and my brain is buzzy and, you know. But herewith is the promised post, that I am home safely, and without incident, more or less.
And in fact, other than those two delays, it was an entirely pleasant drive. I forget how nice that drive is when it’s not raining. 🙂
