After a good deal more writing-avoiding behavior (my desk is so clean! All the piles are cleared off the dining table! And so much laundry done!), I got back into Hobgoblin today. And it went fine! I hadn’t looked at it since January.
I’d reread it at that point, from a printout, which I have marked up and piled on my desk here. Not marked up in any thorough or worked-out way, mind you; just “fix this” and “I don’t think so” kinds of notes. Even so, I was working from that for about three chapters till I got pulled away to other things.
Well now that the other things are done, so much time had gone by that I felt I should start from the beginning again. So I did, and it went fine–the chapters I’d already cleaned up were quite acceptable (though of course I trimmed them even further). And then I got into the unedited parts–at least, unedited this time around (I’ve already gone through the book several times). And that’s going fine too…so far. I’ve just gotten to chapter 7, which is told from the POV of a character who I thought I’d decided was not going to have a POV in this book…so, I have to think about that. Tomorrow. It’s late enough now, and I did so much already, I think I can call it a night.

In other news, I went for a swim today, first time since before I got sick. Felt good! I was working off frustrations too, having just come from the bank, where I was trying to deposit a check in the ATM, and the machine froze up and went “out of service” before completing my deposit, and nobody in the bank could tell me whether it had gone through or not…grr. That’s it, no more ATM-ing of checks for me. I’m going inside the bank from now on. (Because this is not the first time this has happened; though the last time, they just popped open the ATM and got the check out.)
