En Route

I drove to Seattle today; it was a reasonably good drive, except for the scary harassment.

A delivery van got on the highway a little past Centralia, and got in the fast lane ahead of me, and obviously wasn’t using cruise control (and I was), and so I caught up to him. After a bit, when he didn’t move over, I got into the middle lane to go around him…whereupon he sped up and trapped me. People who aren’t paying attention do this all the time, so I dropped back and got behind him again, then tried to pass again when it was clear.

But then he did it again, and then several more times; it became obvious this wasn’t accidental. He wanted me to move over so he could drive RIGHT NEXT TO me. He would speed to 80 if that’s what it took to keep me trapped.

In Olympia, I managed to get ahead of him, in enough traffic; I then got into the fast lane again. Whereupon he got up RIGHT BEHIND ME with his lights on and tailed me HARD. To the point where I was looking for cop cars, thinking I’d flash my lights and get the cop to pull over with me, and scare off or otherwise deal with Mr. Asshole.

Because I was not going to move over again and let him get beside me.

Eventually, close to Tacoma, he pulled into the middle lane, and then drove RIGHT NEXT TO ME for a while. I did not look over.

EVENTUALLY eventually, he drew ahead and vanished. The whole episode lasted a half hour or more. Very uncomfortable.

Anyway! Other than that, the day’s been lovely. 🙂 Mark and I took a long walk and had scrumptious sushi dinner; now he’s packing for Chicago. Our flight tomorrow is at a reasonable hour. And, well, I’m just glad to be here safely. After all that.
