I’m terrible at taking “before” pictures–I get well into any project before I realize, Hey, I might want to blog about this; and then even later comes, Oh, and I’ll want to show what it was like before I started.
Well today was no different. I’d been wanting to do something ambitious in the garden, or at least in the yard–in a place that wasn’t really garden, but was actually a weedy tangly nasty mess of a place, by the compost bin, a walk-through place filled with empty pots left over from the nursery, and four or five old dead hoses, and some trash, and a lot of clover and tall weeds.
Which, okay, these things happen; but it’s right off the stairs leading down from the deck, so it’s the first place anyone in the garden sees, and, well, that was just not right.
So a few days ago Mark and I went to the nursery, and bought a lot of dirt and a lot of lovely ground cover, and then it rained and we were busy and tired, and, well.
But today, we were less busy, and it was quite pleasant, even perhaps hot; so we set about Making It Right. I pulled out buckets and buckets of weeds, and he pitchforked up even more; we dumped oodles of bags of dirt on the ground, so much so that he went back to the nursery to buy more; he then got totally into it (while I was called away to Other Things) and laid a lovely stone path, and planted so many ground covers, and oh wow the area looks great now. Except I didn’t even take an “after” photo, because it all looks a little bedraggled, being all replanted and heavily watered and all. As soon as it perks up, I’ll take a photo and show you. Until then, you will just have to trust me.
But here’s a photo of our dinner, to tide you over. The fried sage, rosemary, and nasturtiums (nasturtia?) all came from pots on my deck. 🙂
