I must be doing something right–the spam-comment count on this blog has increased almost fifty-fold in the last week or so. (No, you don’t see them; they get shunted off to a folder, where I periodically glance at them and delete them.) (Sometimes they are very funny; maybe I should let you see some of them.)
But that isn’t what I came here to tell you: I came here to tell you that my Q&T rewrite is up to nearly 18,000 words, and good words at that! And Mark and I have just had an exciting conversation about the next scene–almost exciting enough for me to want to start writing it now, but, no. I have to get up early tomorrow to meet David for writing; I will start it then.
And then! The week gets even more interesting. Tomorrow night, Brilliant Editor Jak flies into town, for a weeklong visit. Except the visit will be somewhat interrupted, because Mark and I are going to RadCon on Thursday. Well, we’re driving out on Thursday; the con start Friday. Mark is showing in the art show, and we both have programming.
Which is as follows!
-I have a reading on Friday the 13th (yes), at 3:30. In the Reading Room, oddly enough.
-Mark has panels, and a reading! His reading is Sunday morning at 11. His panels are:
-Friday at 4:00, “Creating Eye Appeal”, room 2201
-Saturday at 12:30, “Traditional Art Meets Digital,” room 2201
-Saturday at 3:00, “Building a Better Villain,” room 2207.
Okay business done. I had been meaning to do that and I just kept forgetting. I am really looking forward to RadCon–it’s been a few years since I’ve been there, but it’s a really important con for me. It was one of my very first genre cons, one of the first where I met so many of the people who are my friends in the field today. It was a very important early con in Mark’s and my relationship. And, well, it’s a gorgeous drive out there, along the Gorge.
I have to figure out my reading. In a 30-minute reading slot, the 35-minute reading I’ve been doing at bookstores just isn’t going to work. I need to come up with, oh I don’t know, maybe 22, 23 minutes of reading. (Because of course the reading won’t start right on time; and maybe there should be a question or two after? And maybe someone might want to buy a book?)
I’ve got a few new scenes in mind. I just need to practice and time them. Frankly, after 5 bookstore readings, I’m getting a little…accustomed to the already-practiced reading anyway. The new scenes…they are going to be fun!
So come to RadCon! See me read something entirely new! (Still from Our Lady of the Islands, of course…but different!) 🙂
