RadCon was very awesome! We had a splendid time! And we are exhausted. But happy.
This isn’t a con report. I’m no good at those things anyway. But this IS to say that, of the 19 prints that Mark put in the art show, 11 sold, including 2 that went to auction (!). We know what one of them sold for (30% more than minimum bid); we had to leave before the second one went up. Even if it went for minimum (which it can’t have), that’s still a VERY good outcome for us overall, and we are quite stoked. AND I sold a number of books, and made a few professional connections which I’m excited about.
But the thing about cons? I mean, yes, of COURSE the financial stuff is important and good (really, it is; we need money to, you know, live and stuff); but even more important is the people. People we met, people we got to know better, people we know and love and don’t get to see often enough. This con featured some of all of those things, and in very enjoyable ways.
And the pacing was good. We were staying off-site, which was (speaking of money) both financially more reasonable but also quieter and more peaceful; and we made the decision to leave “early” Saturday night and go back to our hotel (“early”=10pm or so). I think that made a huge difference. Though I am something of an introvert, I am also someone who can fall into the stream of one-more-party and one-more-glass-of-wine and ten-more-minutes-here and talk-to-just-one-more-person and oh-is-that-scotch?…and I often regret that excess later. Whether in hangovers or social exhaustion or getting sick or whatever. And we didn’t do that this time, and I am happy about that. I’ve got (as usual) a LOT to do this coming week, and I think, after a good night’s sleep in my own bed, I’ll be fully equipped to tackle that–I won’t need three days of recovery.
oh right MY OWN BED. Yes. Coming up next! 🙂
