Thursday Notes: #8
Listening
I haven’t ever listened to audio books, much; I don’t have a commute; and when I work, I’m working with words, so I can’t have other words in my ears.
But I know many of you do listen–to books, podcasts, radio shows–and so when I heard that authors can put their books up for bid on ACX (a division of Audible), I leapt on the opportunity.
ACX works like this: I create a listing for the book, with its description, and offer a 50-50 royalty share with the narrator. Narrators then audition; I choose the one I like, and they start recording and producing the audio book.
___________
So I put up Orcas Intrigue and Orcas Intruder and The Queen and The Tower. Exciting! I got auditions from two fantastic narrators (one for the Orcas series and another for Q&T). Super exciting! I accepted both auditions and the narrators got to work. So much exciting!!
Then I got twenty-three hours of audio files to review. Gulp.
But I did it! I found my earbuds and plugged them in and listened to my own words (well, mine and Karen’s, in the case of the Orcas series), being read by someone else…which is a cool and strange thing, let me tell you.
The books are slowly making their way to market. Orcas Intrigue is already available in audio; I’ve sent a batch of corrections to the narrator for its sequel, Orcas Intruder.
The Queen and The Tower should hit the market very soon; corrections have been made and approved, and the book is in the pipeline. ACX also reviews each book, so it takes a few weeks from when I hit “publish” till the book is available.
Go forth and listen! I’ll let you know when the next audio book is available.
______________
In other news: we’re hitting the road yet again (sigh, I know). There probably won’t be a newsletter next week–though I am taking my computer, so who knows? When we get home, though, I’ll pick up the program again. And write fiction too! (gasp) (swoon)
