Today, Auntie and I went to take the docent’s tour of San Francisco’s City Hall. This is for Top Seekrit research for a current writing project of mine (*cough DEMONHEAD cough*), so we can call it writing-related program activities.
(I did return home later and edit one chapter of said book, so I had both writing and WRPA today. Yay!)
We took the streetcar down to the Civic Center, which was a lovely way to go, even if there somewhat inexplicably was a J-Church car on the N-Judah line.
When we emerged into United Nations Plaza, there was apparently an enormous police activity underway:
Weirdly, the many many cops and emergency personnel all standing around seemed…. bored. Unconcerned. Further investigation revealed a large trailer, many camera wires, random security guards: the telltale spoor of a movie shoot. Or, in this case, a TV show shoot.
Okay then. On to the tour!
We were a bit early, so we goofed around outside at an apparently abandoned podium:
But then the group holding the rally showed up. Their banners say “Power Power.” That’s all I know.
After that, we submitted to purse searches and an X-ray machine, and then we were in.
And we were in luck! Nobody else in the entire city decided to take the Tuesday noon tour of City Hall, so we had our helpful docent all to ourselves.

He told us the history of San Francisco, of the various City Halls, and this building. It was fascinating–there was a ton of stuff I’d never known, intermingled with things I did know. Fun to contextualize it all.
And the building itself? Gorgeous. Simply gorgeous.

Then, after a restorative lunch, we repaired to the Witchnest and did some art–my previously-mentioned editing, and Auntie did a still life of my vase of roses:
A successful day, I’d say.
