I Looked At The Garden Today

Okay I more than looked at the garden today…I planted the adopted rose bush that came home in the back seat of the car; and the other rose bush that La Enigma and her Consort brought over; and then I figured I should plant some of these iris bulbs I dug up and separated a while back; and that led to trying to clear more space in the back bed, which meant pulling up lilac volunteers, and digging up their roots, and untangling them from the vines; and oh the vines!! my goodness the vines, I removed several more bucketfuls of them; and before you knew it, several hours had gone by….

It was more or less a nice sunny day, though cold, and it clouded over by the afternoon, and should rain by tomorrow (I think it sprinkled some today, but I was inside, so I’m not sure); it did feel great to get back out into the yard.

In fact I think the garden will be an important element in whatever it is I end up writing next. This is all still percolating….and I have another post on “theme” coming up, once I get my thoughts around it further….but this all feels deep and important and good and right and, well, you know. Like the stuff one should want to be writing about. 🙂

In other news: one of the wonderful things about World Fantasy is the great big bag-o-books that they hand out when you arrive. Sometimes you get things in your bag that you don’t want; sometimes you’re traveling by air and can’t take back such a lot of books; so they have a table there for exchange, and all weekend long people are wandering by, leaving their books and checking for treasures; so by the end of the con, presumably, everyone (everyone who’s trying, anyway) has a big pile of books they want.

Here’s mine:

I actually snagged Brenda Cooper’s Mayan December too, but Mark wanted to borrow it, so it’s not on this pile. But I will get it back. Oh yes I will.*

*Actually I am calling it “our” book, but he’s calling it my book, and that’s all probably academic anyway, because we’re both going to read it, and it’s going to be shelved here, and so there you go.
