Nothing Is Simple, Part IIa

Today’s progress in the Great House-Number-Replacing Project of 2011:

I went to the big-box home-improvement store, old number-stuck board in hand, and sought expert assistance for replacement of same. Helpful Fellow 1 sent me to Helpful Fellow 2 who called for Helpful Fellow 3; HF3 pondered a number of expensive and complicated options before slicing up a six-dollar plank to the size I requested. (I got to keep the rest of the plank too.) (The longest part of which got to sit in the front seat of the Miata, as I had not thought I was going out to buy something large when I selected my day’s chariot.)

I got home, laid the tiles atop the unfinished plank-bit, was satisfied at the size and shape of it. Then I laid down newspaper and painted the back of it. I figure I’ll do one coat on the back, and two (or however many are necessary) on the front.

After the back coat dried, I attempted to turn the plank-bit over and commence painting the front. When lo, I discovered that the paint had ENTIRELY stuck the newspaper to the board, all along its edges.

So now I need sandpaper, for removal of same. Then I shall perhaps contemplate better background media for painting.

I dread the eventual drilling of holes. :/

(At least I have a whole bunch of plank left….) :/ :/

_______________

Elsewise, though, I wrote another three pages on the collaborative story, and had a nice meeting with a new freelance client, and had two long and deeply intellectually fascinating phone conversations with Mark, and decided I need a humidifier, and made a yummy dinner, and read a while. So it was a pretty great day, on balance. Oh and Mt. Hood looks spectacular in this clear crisp cold weather. Tomorrow, it’s supposed to rain, and how; so I’m glad I saw the mountain today, even from this distance.
