Spiffy day today. My houseguests and I bestirred ourselves at a reasonable hour, puttered around here a bit, then headed across the river to brunch at Fuller’s Coffee Shop, then on to Powell’s.
Don’t hold it against them, but my friends are not genre folks, so they headed off to other rooms while I went to Our Room. I poked around, gathering ONLY six or so books to buy…then went to check out the anthology section.
Where lo, I found three copies of The Modern Fae’s Guide to Surviving Humanity. And they had been signed by one of the other authors, with the little “Autographed Copy” sticker on the front cover.
So I carried them to the helpful-desk guy and asked if he wanted me to sign them too. “Sure!” he said, and brought out a pen, and added a “X2!” to the sticker.
Then he pulled out a key. “Since you’re a writer with a book in this room, you can also sign the wall.”
“Oh gosh,” I said. “I am dying to sign the wall–but I don’t want to yet. I’ve got nobody with me, and, um, well, I’ve got a novel coming out next year… Can I sign it then?”
He said, “Okay.” Then he smiled and said, “You’re only the second person to want to sign the wall later, because you weren’t ready. Wil Wheaton was the first.”
Ha!
I mean, god yes, I totally want to sign the wall. I’ve brought all kinds of writers to sign the wall–from near and far, and took their pictures, and blogged about it. It is my dream to sign the wall! But…yeah. I want it to be for my novel. And I want Mark with me. 🙂 You know?

Good day elsewise too. After my friends left, I looked at all the housecleaning and freelance work and writing work and real estate work I had to do–and I got in the car and went to the nursery, then spent a couple of hours in the yard. Because that’s how it rolls around here.
And apparently the weather is about to get spectacular. So I’m SURE I’ll be wanting to spend lots of time indoors getting things done over the weekend, right?
