Well that was a whirlwind few days! But we really did learn a lot. I know that all sorts of unanticipated things will come up when we’re actually being innkeepers, but I feel pretty confident that we know the basics, and can ‘wing it’ if need be…also, the Real Innkeepers will be just a phone call away.
The most important thing is that we show the guests a good time. If they feel welcomed and well taken care of, that can cover a multitude of sins. Not that I’m hoping for any sins! 🙂 But, well, you know.
And then on our way back on the ferry, we ran into our friend Miki–just after we’d been talking about her, wondering if we’d see her that night at the Clarion party. She’d been on the island giving a talk at the library–probably just when I was sitting outside the library reading a book in the sunshine, waiting while Mark did some shopping. Small world. Anyway, it was good we ran into her, because she was not going to the party; she had a very interesting bachelorette party to attend instead.
But we did go (after driving back and forth across Seattle several times trying to figure out how to get there) and had a marvelous time seeing lots of other friends. Too many in one room to even talk to. I’m glad Portland’s only three hours away; this may be Mark’s last weekend in this apartment, but we’re certain to be up here plenty.
I mean, after we spend the entire winter on a remote island. Where all our friends should come and see US.
